Packing is not fun

02.12.09

The one thing that remains perfectly constant in my life is my dislike for packing. It’s not something that I hate, and it’s not something that I shy away from doing, it’s just a chore…a rather large chore, that never seems to be done until the day of the move. Now, almost three weeks away from our move, we’ve begun the packing. Things have come off the walls, boxes have been stuffed with books, DVDs, etc. Things are moving along, but it’s slow. And tedious.
This weekend, Melissa and I are going away for the Valentines Day holiday. I’ve found us a nice place to go, but for fear of her reading my blog, I’m going to hold off mentioning where we’re going, as it’s a surprise. Even if I DID say where we’re going, I doubt it would matter to most people. Either way, it’ll be a nice trip and we’re bound to have a good time. I just hope that the weather stays nice, as that will greatly help the outcome of the trip.
It’s about time to take care of a few more things for work and then start into the packing again. Good times.

Moving again…

02.10.09

So the time has come, once again, to go and gather up boxes from local retailers and to pack up all my goods and move them hundreds of miles. Yep, Melissa and I are moving out of Atlanta. Where are we going to live you ask? Florida. Yep, we’re moving to beautiful sunny South Florida. West Palm Beach/Boca Raton area actually. We’re both pretty damn excited about it. We’ve been down there a bunch in the recent weeks and it’s been amazing to walk around in t-shirts and shorts, go swimming in the ocean and lounge in the sun…in February.
Today we finalized the move date, set up a U-Haul and started the chore of packing up everything. We’ve been in the process of searching for a house, and the market down there is really good for us. It’s a strong buyers market, with lots of property that’s been devalued by the recent happenings in the economy. We’re pretty confident that we’re going to be able to find something that will meet out budget and still provide a great value in the coming years.
In addition to the move, I just found out yesterday that I received another promotion. While I’ve not yet attained the position of “Manager”, it’s a solid stepping stone to hitting that goal next year, which will be quite the nice achievement if it comes to fruition. Melissa and I had a discussion about it and I believe now that I’m back on track from when I hit my little stumbling block 6 years back. Took a little bit to get to this point, but now we’re moving forward.
Other than that, things are pretty much going smoothly here in Atlanta. It’s going to be a little sad moving away from this place. I’ve been here for two years now, and I’ve had some good times, but I can’t lie and say that I won’t be glad to be closer to the beach and to be away from the strangulating racial tension here in the “deep south”. Sometimes its just too much to deal with.
Dagny has been doing well, her hips are hurting her more than we would like to see, but we’ve got her some supplements and hopefully, within a few months, they’ll help her to get a bit stronger and build back some of what she’s lost.
The evening time has approached and it’s time to settle in for the night.
