Short Update
09.17.08
It’s been one of those months. Things have been busy, but not a whole lot has gone on.
I’ve been working in Charlotte for awhile now and the project, like so many others that I have been on, is being run poorly. It’s under staffed, lacking expertise and lacking direction. Luckily, most of that incompetence comes from the client side and those folks that are working for IBM, which, surprisingly enough, are doing a HORRIBLE job. They are literally running about 6 months behind in their deliverables and are working 20 hours a day to get things moving.
I recently had an opportunity come up to work on a project up in Baltimore. It sounded great, would have pulled me from this project, but alas, they wanted me to start mid-October. I’m not currently slated to roll off this current gig until at least Halloween, so that really put a crimp in those plans. Not to mention that I’ll probably be pushed back and be here through the new year, but what else is new….more delays and more incompetence.
One of my last posts was in regard to going to Mobile Bay for Labor Day…well, if anyone was paying attention (Brad, I know you were), there was a hurricane. I wonder if that house is still even standing. Oh well, maybe next year. Melissa and I ended up having a nice weekend at home. Exciting? No, not really, but nice.
After a fairly short car search, I was able to procure myself a new car. I had wanted to find something that would be fun to drive, wouldn’t cost me a bunch of money, was a 5 speed and wasn’t an American car. Well, as it turns out, a guy that I work with had a 1998 Audi A4. It’s black, has the sport package, manual, and has a turbo, so it’s fun to drive. Well, he used to have it anyway. I purchased it from him 2 weeks ago. The greatest thing about it is that it has 51k miles. For a 1998, that’s incredibly low. I think I got a very good deal on it, and hopefully it’ll be a little less problematic than the freaking BMW, which, at the rate things were failing on the Bimmer, it shouldn’t be all that difficult.
This week, we have some deliverables due on Friday, so I drove up to Charlotte on Monday. As it turns out, things have been pushed back a little bit, so I won’t be needing to deliver anything this week, so I will be heading home shortly, which is nice because today is Wednesday. Melissa doesn’t know that I’m heading home yet, so hopefully she doesn’t read my blog before then so that I can surprise her… and if she does, then at least I’ll know she’s smiling.
Anyway, I have to get back to work for the time being.
