Up and running...
I have found that the busier I get with life, the less frequently I end up posting on my blog. Doesn’t take a degree in rocket science to figure that one out, but none the less, I’ve found myself a few minutes where I could sit down and recap what’s gone on in my life in the past month.
Granted, not all that much interesting has happened, but I did start with my new company last week, so that’s been pretty good. All is going well, and tomorrow I start up with some more Oracle training, very similar to what I had done previously. This time, it’s not for certification, but I think that when it comes to my resume, I’ll fudge it, seeing as how Oracle doesn’t offer certification on the subject that I am going to be learning. I’m not really looking forward to attending the class, as they tend to be very boring and dry, but I am going to immerse myself in it and see how it goes. Hopefully I’ll be able to use my laptop to take notes, but I don’t think that’ll work very well, as there are usually computer based exercises to do during the class. We’ll have to see how it works out.
After I quit my job, Melissa and I flew out to Arizona to see a friend of hers, her grandmother and to check out Sedona and the Grand Canyon. The trip was enjoyable, certainly not the greatest vacation ever, but we had a nice time and it was good to meet her grandmother, and see Naomi, Melissa’s friend.
I’ve been itching to get some more training stuff done, but I’m having a hard time focusing on the stuff that’s been presented to me here, so I think that I may put in a concerted effort to set up Pentaho on this computer and see about getting it up and running. I figure that would be a worthwhile expenditure of time.
Another fun thing that Melissa and I started doing is Pottery. We’ve been going to a local studio for the past month and have made a few pots and such. Nothing amazing, but we’re really getting much better all the time, so that’s encouraging. I finally threw a decent sized bowl the other day, an aggregate and have a few things to be glazed that I used some under glaze on, so overall, it’s been fun and interesting, and I am pretty excited about it. Perhaps when Melissa and I get a new place, we’ll build ourselves a little pottery area.
Speaking of getting a new place, this past weekend, Missy and I started the search for a new place to live. After seeing a few townhouses and houses, I think that we narrowed down what we’re looking for. Hopefully we can find a 2 BR/ 2Bath house right near Decatur so that we can attend pottery with ease and be close to some of the friends that we’ve made down here.
Anyway, it’s around 3:15 right now, so I am going to head home and relax before Melissa and I head out to see James Blount and Sara Barellias (SP?)….Melissa wanted to go, so we’re going to be doing that this evening.
