More stuff the Melissa and I made....

Oh, and yes, this is my 300th blog entry. Whoo hoo.
November isn't anywhere even close to being here, and already, I'm tired of the politics surrounding this race. If I hear the people on the radio, or read one more blog post about Obama using his "race" to his advantage or some dumb ass republican saying that it benefits him to be black, I am going to shit myself. I mean really...come on people. Think about what you are saying. Does he get more media because of it, yes, probably, but in the larger scale of being elected into office, does it really help? I don't think so. I can't imagine that it would, or we would have had a black president by now.
The other issue that's gotten me a little uptight is the financial situation in our country. I mean, it's getting back. I just got a letter from the IRS letting me know that I was going to be getting a tax credit...well, everyone that makes under 75K on their 2007 Taxes gets a $600 credit. You know the country is in a bad place when they spend billions of dollars handing out money to it's citizens. I can only imagine how people are going to spend this money. If I had a guess, it's not going to be to pay off credit cards. There will probably be a surge in PS3 sales, car rims, plasma TV's and that sort of supurfluous nonsense. Ugh. Don't get me wrong, I think it will help to stimulate the economy, but still, it's a sign of bad times. Have you read anything about what's going on with Bear Stearns? Sold....for $236 million....yes...million. How does a company like BS go out of business and be sold for $2 a share? Perhaps it's because we have a vacation happy President that's not running this country and a power hungry VP that's more interested in his own personal gain than he is in the welfare of the country. Anyway...enough ranting on politics. It just gets me angry.
Speaking of the IRS...it's tax season. I tried to do my taxes online with HR Block, but because I moved to GA mid-year while keeping the same job, it confused the tax software, so I'm going to have to go into their offices to have it done. Perhaps I should just find a good accountant so he can get it done and done professionally, instead of going through some two-bit HR Block "Tax Specialist"....probably not. Bit more than I need to get involved in.
This past week, Melissa and I were successful in our search for a house to rent. We found a great 3BR/1.5bath house for rent right in Decatur. I'm so tired of Buckhead it's killing me, so it'll be nice to get out there and be closer to midtown, pottery and better non-commercial shops and restaurants.
Anyway, it's about time to start work for the day, so off I go.
Sometimes I just get a kick out of things like this...had to share.
Okay, I said that I would, so here are some pictures of what Melissa and I have made at Pottery recently.

Pretty fun eh?
If this doesn't send chills down your spine, I don't know what will...
Well, I was supposed to go to Seattle tomorrow, but apparently, my lack of back end database knowledge threw a kink into that plan, so tomorrow I am going back into the office. I am actually looking forward to it, because I am going to be putting together some new hire training on BI Methodology. While I'm sure that sounds like TONS of fun, I am actually looking forward to it and to having my name on a document in our repository.
This past weekend was...well, it was full of hanging out. Melissa and I went out with our neighbors from down the hall last night, and that was a pretty good time. Just went to watch the UNC vs. Duke basketball game at the local Taco Mac. Melissa ended up having a few beers, as did I, and we eventually made it home in one piece...tired, drunk and sleepy.
That was about the most eventful happening of the weekend other than us heading to pottery tonight and getting back a few more of our most recent pieces. In the next few days I hope to take some pictures of my fabulous clay creations so that I can post them for all posterity.
Anyway, it's time to go to bed.
I have found that the busier I get with life, the less frequently I end up posting on my blog. Doesn’t take a degree in rocket science to figure that one out, but none the less, I’ve found myself a few minutes where I could sit down and recap what’s gone on in my life in the past month.
Granted, not all that much interesting has happened, but I did start with my new company last week, so that’s been pretty good. All is going well, and tomorrow I start up with some more Oracle training, very similar to what I had done previously. This time, it’s not for certification, but I think that when it comes to my resume, I’ll fudge it, seeing as how Oracle doesn’t offer certification on the subject that I am going to be learning. I’m not really looking forward to attending the class, as they tend to be very boring and dry, but I am going to immerse myself in it and see how it goes. Hopefully I’ll be able to use my laptop to take notes, but I don’t think that’ll work very well, as there are usually computer based exercises to do during the class. We’ll have to see how it works out.
After I quit my job, Melissa and I flew out to Arizona to see a friend of hers, her grandmother and to check out Sedona and the Grand Canyon. The trip was enjoyable, certainly not the greatest vacation ever, but we had a nice time and it was good to meet her grandmother, and see Naomi, Melissa’s friend.
I’ve been itching to get some more training stuff done, but I’m having a hard time focusing on the stuff that’s been presented to me here, so I think that I may put in a concerted effort to set up Pentaho on this computer and see about getting it up and running. I figure that would be a worthwhile expenditure of time.
Another fun thing that Melissa and I started doing is Pottery. We’ve been going to a local studio for the past month and have made a few pots and such. Nothing amazing, but we’re really getting much better all the time, so that’s encouraging. I finally threw a decent sized bowl the other day, an aggregate and have a few things to be glazed that I used some under glaze on, so overall, it’s been fun and interesting, and I am pretty excited about it. Perhaps when Melissa and I get a new place, we’ll build ourselves a little pottery area.
Speaking of getting a new place, this past weekend, Missy and I started the search for a new place to live. After seeing a few townhouses and houses, I think that we narrowed down what we’re looking for. Hopefully we can find a 2 BR/ 2Bath house right near Decatur so that we can attend pottery with ease and be close to some of the friends that we’ve made down here.
Anyway, it’s around 3:15 right now, so I am going to head home and relax before Melissa and I head out to see James Blount and Sara Barellias (SP?)….Melissa wanted to go, so we’re going to be doing that this evening.
