Moving Woes...
Now that it's June 11th, I figure that it's about time I put out a little update as to the status of my move. Things are done, let's just put it that way. Things didn't really go as smoothly as I had hoped that they would, but the majority of my stuff did make it down in one piece.
It's late, and I don't really feel like getting into the whole story, but the jist of it goes something like this:
"Hi, I just wanted to call and check that my stuff is going to be there tomorrow. I'm driving down from NY and I don't want to have any surprises when I go to get my stuff from the back of the truck"
"Hmmm... that's funny...your trailer is marked as 'lost'... You're going to have to call back on Monday."
"Whoa whoa whoa...I paid extra to make sure it would be there by the 31st...it's the 2nd..."
"Oh... hmmm...let me see here.." I hear the clicking of the keyboard.
"Oh no.... this can't be right...."
More clicking.
"Oh.. jeez... Umm... I don't want to make you sick or anything, but your trailer got misrouted...."
"Misrouted? To where?"
"Ummm... looks like it when to Salt Lake City, Utah, and right now it's sitting up in Portland, Oregon...I'll have them send it down here right away."
Long story short, when I finally did get to my truck, all of my possessions were scattered about as if someone had stirred them with a large spoon. Turns out that traveling an extra 6,000 miles around the country on the back of a truck isn't really all that great for the health of your possessions.
Overall, the damage wasn't that bad, but there were a few casualties that really bummed me out. Few beer glasses, my brew pot (gasp!) and my coffee table (which was totally shattered) to name a few. This week I am going to submit something to their customer service desk and hopefully recoup some of the money for the stuff that was either damaged or totally destroyed. I doubt that the damages will total over $1000, but I won't really know until I make a full list.
This weekend I unpacked my stuff...well... tried to but realized that I needed furniture, or at least some shelves to really get into the whole unpacking. Needless to say, I decided to head down to Ikea. After spending upwards of $400 I have a new coffee table (an exact clone of the one that I had), a real bed, a night table, a floor standing lamp....yeah.. that's it... I wanted a dresser too, but I forgot to grab it on the way out. Additionally, I was able to get two cherry colored bookshelves from a guy on Craiglist for $15. I'm going to be going and getting a TV table from him too.... oh yeah...
I got a new TV. It's beautiful and it's God damn huge. Well... not really all that big, but big enough. It's a 37" LCD display. I currently have it hooked up to my computer which...as you can guess...is amazing, especially sitting about two feet from it. Once I get the TV stand, I'll hook up my stereo and go back to my little ol' monitor, but this is nice for the time being....really makes me yearn for a sweet ass Dell 30". Ugh... just not going to happen.
Anyway, I gotta get up for work in the morning, so it's about time that i head to bed.
