Linux is loaded....

So I finally took the plunge and installed Linux (Ubuntu) onto my computer. I was able to scrouge up 30 Gigs on my secondary drive, partitioned it and installed Linux while half drunk last night...

While that isn't much of a trick to pull off, the actions before it made it a momentous occasion. About 3 days ago I decided that it would be a good idea to upgrade my Windows XP Home Edition to XP Professional. I didn't really have any reason to try to do it, but I thought...hell why not. I "borrowed" the CD from Columbia (Thanks!) and started the install. Instead of actually formatting my drive I decided to install over the Home Edition. For anyone that knows, doing an install over a previous version of windows is tricky to say the least.

So at first I had issues with Daemon Tools using system files, then I totally made my computer unable to boot by messing with hal.dll. I was able to use the install CD's to get a DOS promt and replace the missing DLL file. Pain in the butt... So I started up the install and of course it didn't work out. It stalled out at 34%.

Fucking thing just sits there.... 34%....so I re-ran the install....
Same damn thing...
Long story short I ended up formatting my C:\ I was damn lucky that I have two hard drives so I was able to save all 31 gigs of pictures that I have taken over the last two years or so.

So I finally go that all working, install on my computer and then couldn't get the damn ethernet card to work. Ended up calling up Dell and talking to some woman in India (who I couldn't understand for the life of me) to find out what freaking network card I have in my computer.

Ugh. So anyway, I got that all working and now I'm good to go. I have a nice clean computer, my registry is spotless and it's running nice and quickly. Not to menion that I have a 30 gig partition with Linux on it. Good to know.

Yes...and I still have a 5 page religion paper to write. Good times.
